OT: Spybot and McAfee Incompatibility?....... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 4 Aug 2005 03:42:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I removed Spybot Search & Destroy from my home PC last night after two very frustrating weeks. It appears that Spybot and McAfee Internet Security Suite are not fully compatible. The biggest conflict was with McAfee's Privacy Service program, but Virus Scan and Spam Blocker would also get deactivated after Spybot would detect some of their activities, even though I would click the "remember" and "allow this change" buttons. I would have to reload Privacy Service, and it's updates, every other day!
I had the Tea Timer provision of Spybot active, which I believe makes the program run in the background all the time. If I reloaded Spybot w/o Tea Timer, would the program then scan/run only when I manually activated it?
I would like to keep Spybot on my machine, but not with the problems I have had for the past two weeks.
Thanks.
FWIW - I also have Adaware on the machine with no conflicts, Windows XP firewall deactivated, McAfee firewall is active, and LinkSys hard-wire router firewall is active.
