Onstar analog/digital

Well, I just got my latest "Onstar" magazine and it had a site to check out on the analog/digital question, compatibility, future, etc.
A couple of thoughts:
They say that the FTC made the ruling in Nov. 2002 that providers would no longer have to support analog in Jan. of 2008 - my car is a 2004 but is fully analog - not digital upgradable. Why would OnStar shoot themselves like this, having known for at least a year (Ok, for a 2004, maybe 1/2 a year?) that they were putting equipment in a vehicle that would not function after 2007? It certainly makes me not want to give them any more of my money.
Also, neither they nor GM are going to be upgrading anyone since it's not a "defect" in the system. I would argue that putting an analog only system in a 2003 or later vehicle is a defect, personally, since they should have know about the FTC ruling and obsolescence of the analog only equipment...
Not that I care too much, I'm just going to use my cell phone in an emergency anyway, though that can't unlock my doors remotely...
