I'm frankly surprised at the number of posts observing poor security procedures... Since 9/11 I have flown from Albany NY to: Glasgow Scotland (Mondo Security), Raleigh NC and SLC Utah 3 times. I dont know if 'mid 20's, non-hippy/druggy looking, white male' is a suspect category, but I have only ONCE in the probably 15+ airport securty checkpoints I have been through NOT had my shoes swabbed and ran in the sniffer machine. I have been 'randomly' patted down at least 5 times, questioned 3 times and most recently had to 'explain' a mini tripod in my backpack. Maybe I'm naive, but my airport experiences have all made me feel more secure.
A decade or so ago, I took a summer field trip to Yellowstone in high school, where we went to Jackson Hole the last day and checked out this crazy knife shop. Of course every guy on the trip bought a knife, or ninja stars, or nunchucks etc. The scene on the plane ride home was something else - 20 or so 15 year olds screwing around IN THE CABIN with enough weapons to film a Bruce Lee movie - I guess those days are Loooong gone!
