Go to http://www.nysgis.state.ny.us, select your county and go. Next page, select "view orthoimagery" and go nuts. Increasing levels of zoom eventually turn into super clear IR sat photos, along with some nifty tools, such as a click and drag distance finder.

PS roger, I had the same experience- found my parents house and could tell which antique car my dad had out that day!
