VHS to DVD using a home computer ...

Having recently created a short movie for work using iMovie (our whole company uses Macs--I have an iBook), I'm looking to be able to convert some of my VHS home movies to DVD. Since I have family who live far enough away to have never met my daughter (8 months), I'd love to send them some home movies. And since some live in PAL-encoded countries, the project gets a bit more complicated (but not for iMovie!).
Does anyone have any recommendations as to DVD burners and analog video converters? I did find an HP device (their dc4000) that has both, but it is only PC compatible, and I plan on doing most of this stuff on my iBook--I take it home every night anyway. I put a link to the HP dc4000 below.
A few other features I'm looking for: external device, connected through firewire or USB, although USB is preferable.
I'll also be switching to a Mac in the next year or so, and the DVD burner will be invaluable in transfering all my files. So it needs to be able to deal with OSX and Windows XP.
At this point (window shopping), price is not an object, but will become a critical factor later. I'd rather see what is available before I put a cap on the price, although it looks like dual-layer DVD burners have really come down in price.
Thanks for any input that you guys have.
