Hey guys. Thanks to everyone for all of the advice, we finally got our stereo. Considered going used as some have suggested, but, we decied to get new. I'm a musician and like good sound, but, not sure if my ears can tell a difference between excellent new speakers for $800 a pair vs absolutely supreme used speakers.
Receiver: Onkyo TX-8511 100x2 - For its price, nothing else brand new could compare. Pretty good distortion rating, so, the 100 watts per channel really means something. Has phono inputs if we ever want to add a turntable. Thing is built like a TANK, so heavy and solid. Looking inside the vents at the internals, its very neat and tidy, good build quality.
CD player - Basic Onkyo 6 disc changer. Solid as well.
Speakers : Pair of Klipsch F-3 floor standers. Each have 2 8" woofers and 1" tweeter with horn. 97dB Sensitivity. Thought they sounded better than "audiophile" speakers I heard from B&W, Definitive, and Boston at local hifi stores.
I think everything works well together. The Klipsch do not sound harsh at all, they actually sound quite laid back to me! (surprising considering they are known to be 'harsh' and have a very high sensitivity. Perhaps its the warm Onkyo receiver.) Nice bass, but not boomy, very tight. Detailed highs, but not harsh or fatiguing. I like to hear highhat work, woodblocks, chimes, etc, and the Klipsh deliver with very high clarity.
Thanks everyone for their input, but to those who's advice I followed, and those who's advice I did not! :)
