Sweet. 2:45am I am stirred awake by a car alarm, then I realize it's MY car alarm. Look out the window (third floor of apt. complex) and see a guy sprinting from my car to another car in the alley. He hops in, peels out and leaves the scence rapidly. I go down there to look. He has attempted to shove all the windows down. I can see his fingerprints all over the window edges and see where he has pulled the weather stripping back.
Here is the thing I am not sure what would motivate him, there was nothing in the car...NOTHING. He was either trying to get in the car to steal it. OR, he was trying to steal my roof rack and bike carriers off the top. (It's a 9-2x so the rack goes over and U-hooks into the window frame unlike my old 9-3 where it went into the doorframe)
I thought the red blinking light in the dash might deter a would be thief...I guess not. The thing that get's me is a think this might have happened before. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that there were some fingerprints all over one of my back window, the weather stripping was pulled down slightly and there was a mysterious dent near the back window.
What do I do to make the car less appealing? I park right next to my building in an off street WELL lit lot. Should I upgrade to an aftermarket alarm that goes off from pressure or has a motion activation feature (it has the lights flash or beeps lightly, if the person stays in the spot longer it sets the alarm off)
As for the roof rack (if that was the target) it was "locked" on to the car, HOWEVER, the two thule bike carriers were NOT locked onto the roof rack so he could have easily taken those (without setting off the alarm) so he was either really dumb or not trying to take the roof rack but rather the car.
Ahhh
Sorry for the length.
