That one has already been debunked Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Wed, 28 Sep 2005 04:52:15 In Reply to: Deadly Dolphins....?, SilverAeroGuy, Tue, 27 Sep 2005 14:02:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Keith Obermann on MSNBC looked into this story on his show Countdown, because it's the sort of thing that he likes. He said it came from the Guardian in the UK.
Like any good tall tail, there is a grain of truth. The US Navy does have trained dolphins, used for mine detection. They can carry cameras down and swim around ships. Apparently they are based in San Diego. That's one breech of the seawall to get from New Orleans to SD.
Let's see - now, how do the dolphins fire the missles? Last I checked, no opposable thumbs. Yes, they have flippers, but they need those for swimming.
Even assuming that you believe that the government has all sorts of secret weapons (the same government, by the way, that can't get a bus out of New Orleans, even after watching the Weather Channel), why would they make the dolphins autonomous? Wouldn't it make sense that if they were 'armed', it would take a handler to fire the missle?
