California has pushed out the VW TDI diesels, and other states as well will not allow them to be sold new. So that is one problem.
The dealers would have to invest in new tooling, training and spares.
Timing belt changes on diesels can be very expensive which eats into the fuel savings.
The diesel fuel here is not good enough for a modern diesel engine, that will change in a few years.
Diesel engines cost more so, the diesel equipped Saabs would have to be priced higher. Saab is having a hard time selling vehicles at a profit now.
Modern diesels will fail with the wrong engine oil. I don't know if the mainstream driver is prepared to understand the needs of a diesel engine.
We had a VW diesel. Did a chip mod on it. It was very fast and no turbo delay.
