You can buy concentrated paste inexpensively in most South Asian groceries. You can make a number of preps out of the same container. Personally I have the paste, but haven't made the sauce yet... just too lazy I guess.
Indian cooking in general is relatively easy, there's just a significant upfront investment in spices. You also need to keep 3-4 fresh ingredients on-hand, but once you do that you can make almost everything. I use the Patak's sauces for convenience sometimes, but you can make things just as good (or better) once you have all your spices sorted out.
I can't wait till I'm unpacked from my move, then it's back to the curry!
