Hi, Bill.
I can share your sentiments somewhat. I live in Acton- moved there about 2.5 years ago- and whenever I go to an eatery in town I get a cold, unfriendly feeling from other people there.
However, when I go to the farm stand at the end of the street I live on, or to the local Ace Hardware, people are friendly and approachable.
People in Acton are pretty divided on the town politics. From what I've heard, the town is going through some serious growing pains. The taxes in the town have gone through the roof in a really short timeframe, which has allowed for one of the highest ranked high schools in the state, but has also caused longtime residents to hate all the newcomers.
The housing price has also gone way up so there's an influx of Boston commuters living in the town. All the longtime residents resent that their town has become so expensive/unaffordable and are extremely resistant to change.
Towns like Sudbury, Concord, Weston, Framingham, Maynard and Littleton are still the same towns they have been for a long time- either affluent, rural or commercialized. Acton is a small rural town that's trying to be something else...
I hide out on my own little piece of land and my neighbors are really nice...
Alex
