i have a CA registered 1986 saab 900 that is broken down in Galesburg, IL. I am currently in Evanston, IL, which is 3 hours away from my car. The car needs a new engine, which is too expensive for me to pay. I was thinking of selling the car for someone to put an engine in or to sell it for parts. I just registered it in CA but without a smog because I am in IL. Does anyone know about selling a non-running CA car in another state? Can I do it without getting a smog check in CA?

also has anyone bought a car in another state and brought it into CA to pass smog? i was told about a 1992 saab 9000 with 89,000 miles selling for $2200. does anyone have experience with these cars? i was told it could pass CA smog.

any input would be appreciated. thank you.
