OT - USB hard drive help Posted by Camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Camm) on Thu, 10 Nov 2005 20:15:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a Simpletech external USB HD, which worked fine, until tonight - when it fell off my table (onto carpet, but still an ouch) The HD turns on, and makes all the right noises, but now my computer gives me a "power surge on hub port" error, whenever I plug the drive into my laptop's USB port. This happens regardless of whether or not the drive is plugged in to the AC adaptor! From what I understand, this is indicative of a short ie, the USB port is being asked to work too hard to power a device. I opened the cover up, everything *looks* ok - no obvious cracks in the circuit board, the usb or AC plug. Any advice out there?
This HD has ALL my music, my home videos, my graduation videos... *sigh*
