hey stickman
hope everything goes well with you mom. as these things go while not ever routine there is quite a bit of knowledge and expertise in valve replacements . one thing i would add is to have the operation done by a surgeon who does them on a regular basis there is extensive data of better outcomes in settings where an operation is done regularly . in some states such as Ny where i live there is a database comparing the mortality and complication rates for procedures done at different hospitals. it's good if your mom has clean coronary arteries and need for a bypass or stents is not anticipated , generally a sign of an otherwise healthy heart and a good prognostic factor. do some searches to find out about the pro's/ cons of the different valve types and understand the rational of why a particular one is recommended for your mom.
