Some of the cars have chains but it looks like a lot are using the tie-downs on the chassis as tow points.
European rallycross (dirt + tarmac) looks like tons of fun. Not all of it has as much contact though.
Here is Per Ecklund's current car. It's a heavily modified 9-3SS. See the NACA ducts at the rear? That's because they mounted the radiator back there. The suspension up front is totally custom: instead of the stock struts, it's got a double-wishbone set-up (designed by Saab engineers). The car also has all-wheel-drive and gets to 100kph in 2.2 sec. The AWD is probably by Pro-Drive. Also, the engine is not a GM Ecotec - it's an older all-Saab 2 liter motor, modified by Trollspeed to crank out 550hp.
