OT - Dell laptop charging issue... Posted by Camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Camm) on Sat, 7 Jan 2006 13:53:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just finished installing a brand new output plug (HRS RP-34) on the end of my Inspiron laptop's AC adaptor. I checked my work with a VOM and my pinout is correct (20v on pin 3, ground on pins 1 and 2). When I plug it in to the computer though, the laptop tells me it is only receiving 70 watts, not the standard 90. Anyone have an idea what is causing this? The plugs are identical, and I cant imagine my reconstruction is causing a 20 watt (3.5 amp) loss... I've read rumors that Dell puts a chip in their plugs so that if you use a generic power supply the computer will refuse to take a full charge, but as far as I understand, this practice ceased... Can anyone confirm this?
Saab content - As of Monday, I'll be on week number 7 waiting for my keyed-to-match ignition lock cylinder to arrive from Sweden.
