Help! Do I need to fix a gouged aluminum frame?

I found that beautyful, new, two month old Trek 7500FX has been damaged.
I know there are a few "composition" specialist CrNiFi or whatever; my strength is numbers :) Noone in the house saw, heard, or knows anything about how the gouge got there...the gouge is deep and about half an inch long, it is on the side of the toptube. There gouge can be classified as a slight dent; the edges of the gouge bent the surrounding area a bit...
I probably made is seem worse than it is; it's small, but deep, right through the paint/sticker I can see bare metal...
QUESTION: Do I need to cover this with anything? clearcoat of some sorts? I read somewhere that the aluminum "rust" is a clear coat which actually stops as the entire surface area is coated....
