from a former radio announcer...as I understand it

Howard gets the BIG BUCKS for a few ..ok.. a lot of reasons.
His money deal is tied to how much of an increase Sirius gets in new listeners/subscribers. If he has an audience of 12 million, (and he has been hyping it for all it's worth,) and takes his audience with him, Sirius gets more profitable. He has already met some of the goals within the first week. The SF Chronicle reported some glitches on the first day, and the story said Howard was unaccustomed to a radio show with out commercials, so now they will have some.

so why does anyone listen? He is on the cutting edge, people want to see/hear what he is going to do next.

...he is an "Entertainer"...

Not for some people, but he is no different than Rush, O'Reilly, Larry King, and Oprah.

I talked one day with the guy who was cleaning the elephant stall at the Barnum and Bailey circus. Why don't you do something else? I asked..
