OT: Wiring a squirrel cage blower motor Posted by Rod [Email] (#3128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rod) on Mon, 16 Jan 2006 18:04:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am in the process of building an extraction system for my wife's jewelry making work area. There are various nasty fumes and particulates that come from her pickling pot, soldering station and polishing wheels. I will be using 4 inch ductwork connected to a squirrel cage blower taken from a very old window air conditioner. I made the fatal mistake of ripping all the wires off the blower motor and now I'm not sure what goes where.
There are 4 wires going to the blower motor - red, black, white (or yellow - hard to tell, it's so old) and brown. I assume one's common, one's high speed and one's low speed. I would have thought the other might be medium speed, but there is a large capacitor associated with the motor. This has 3 terminals marked "hi","lo" and "c" (Common?) so I am assuming there are only 2 speeds.
So how should the capacitor, motor and speed switch be wired up together? I seem to have more wires on the motor than there are terminals on the capacitor!
