I posted on a similar situation for me living in Michigan to register a car in Ohio. I want my parents to use my 9-3 Linear, but I wanted to maintain ownership. All you have to do is have somebody who lives in Massachusetts to insure it for you without the vehicle ownership changing hands. You can pay that person for the insurance amount, but you still own it so it will still have California plates. It's a legit way to do it.
