Sure these are two separate issues. The rep needs to help me fix my car. It isn’t his concern as to how Saab designed the car.

Hopefully, I can get SaabUSA to respond regarding the loading concern. I can’t find any regulations regarding GVWR. As I understand it GVWR is the max safe loading of a vehicle where the vehicle can be operated continuously without any damage to the vehicle. It may or may not have anything to do with axel; loadings. Someone I spoke with thought it did, but then why bother having separate axel loading specs. I think it reasonable to expect my wagon to be able to carry the stated loads during a trip (which is when this occurred). Sure I took a longer than average trip, but no where does it say don’t load the vehicle beyond a certain amount of time/mileage. I am also not entirely sure the car can be fixed. I might be somewhat biased since I even had a Saab customer service rep tell me I “have a broken car Saab won’t fix.” If the car can’t be fixed, I don’t know what role the rep plays.

This doesn’t seem to be a wear issue as new rear springs and shocks only helped, but did not fix the problem. Something else is broken or worn. Question is what and can it be fixed?

As to loading. We are talking about around 920 lbs of capacity. 4/5 people in the car could weigh near that or even exceed that. The car should be designed to handle the GVWR. That is why the GVWR number is stated on the car. It is like having 20lb rope that can only handle 20lbs for a limited time period. That just doesn’t make any sense. It is not as though I am complaining that the brakes wear faster when loaded or the car uses more gas. I have a structural change somewhere without exceeding the load limits. Considering engineering factors of safety this has the potential to be a serious concern. I am quite surprised that SaabUSA hasn’t taken the mater more seriously, particularly in light of the Explorer/Firestone problems.
