They can make you list a serial number for items that comes with serial numbers. Most all electronic gadget has serial numbers. Ebay can check against the polist record and seller can report if the item they receive had different serial number than what was listed on ebay.
The possession is 9/10th of the law. That's how I prove my ownership and if I were to claim something is mine, than I better back that claim up as burden of proof is on me. taking a picture of your item with the serial number or writing them down would count as a proof which insurance recommends.
Chop shop is a full time auto shop, and selling stolen goods part time. Ebay is kindda acting like that as full time online auction site and help turning stolen goods into cash part of the time...
Since the paypal protects the seller, I think Ebay should collect money from the buyer and start protecting the buyer and what they buy.
Also, Ebay knows they have stolen goods on their site. There are many police reports and such that they can not publicly say that they have no knowledge of stolen goods for sale on their site.
If they know about it, and not act to prevent it can be really costly for ebay if they ever gets sued...
