I recently replaced my computer with one my work was getting rid off. It's almost the same specs, but has a newer video card, plus the power button on mine was broken. I reformatted the hard drive, and installed Win98SE from scratch. The problem is my system resources are very low whenever I use any more than one program. For example, right now I have two IE windows open, msn messenger, aol messenger, and Outlook Express open. My system resources are at 34%, user resources 38%, and GDI resources at 34%. Every new program or window I open drops it another 3-5%. Any ideas as to what could be causing this would be most appreciated. Please just don't tell me my computer is too old, because a week ago I was running a slightly older computer with no problems like this.
specs:
P3 800
Asus CUV4X mainboard, bios version 1009
512MB PC133 ram (from old computer, so I think it is good)
40GB Samsung HD, 25GB free
Nvidia TNT2 Model 64, driver version 71.84 (latest available)
