I think I read some place that SAAB started using the standard GM unit from Vertronix in 2005. Could it be those are easily readable? I don't know what or if they had recorders before that. The Vertronix systems are purported particularly easy to extract information from apparently. They also record more information and for a longer period of time before the crash than some other systems. Many other manufactures use proprietary systems that are more difficult to extract information from and have less data especially prior to the crash.
