Back in 1985 we purchased a 1982 Audi Coupe with a manual transmission. Since my other car was a motorcycle, my wife needed/wanted to learn how to drive a manual transmission, so I taught her how to drive a manual. Since then, almost all of our cars have been equipped with manual transmissions (the minivans when the kids were in high school being the only exceptions). In 1994, we bought a used Honda Civic with a manual transmission for economy and to use as a learning lab as our kids entered the learn to drive years. My wife spent as much time teaching them how to drive a manual as I did. One of our sons took his driving test on the Honda rather than the minivan because he was more comfortable with it. My wife and sons enjoy being more involved in the driving experience. I opt for teaching her how to drive a manual. Use common sense and patience (flat empty parking area, no hills, etc.). Enjoy the experience!
