car, more so for a wagon due to the abrupt drop in the roof profile.
A sedan has a sloping backside so the air stream does not separate abruptly near the end of the roof but follows the back window to the edge of the trunk lid and then separates. So the rear window of the sedan tends to be cleaned by the air stream, but not so for the wagon's close to vertical back window.
In fact, due to the recirculating region behind the car, dirt tends to be trapped within this rear bubble and then sticks to the rear of the car. For a wagon, that surface includes the back window. Look carefully at the vertical trunk surface of a sedan, I bet it is just as dirty as your wagon's rear window 8-).
You can force or divert the air stream to lessen the dirt by putting a diverting spoiler at the trailing edge of the roof for your wagon. The spoiler has a slot that diverts and speed up the air down the rear window.
