Bode, may be one of the best skiers in the world but he's mostly interested in Bode and having a good time. When ski racing and the lifestyle stops being fun for him he will disappear from the scene. I'd be surprised if he even shows up 4 years from now in Vancouver.
Sure, he's fast, but he's inconsistent (especially this year) and the trick to competing at the top of any individual sport is consistency and staying power. You look back at guys like Eriksen, Killy, Stenmark, Klammer and Maier and you find guys who stuck with the game and were serious about what they were doing. I somehow don't see Bode being like the Hermanator and still being a major contender when he's 34. By then Bode will be a footnote.
Unless he grows up. But that, IMO is unlikely, due to Bode's personality and the nature of sports today. While a gold at the Olympics also comes with a check for $50K, the top players all make much more than that without the Olympics, thanks to the idiotic amount of money companies pay in endorsements. I think that makes many of them a lot less hungry and makes the Olympics just a big stage for their mostly over-inflated egos.
Look at Chad Heddrick, who was there to "win medals" as he said. He was all about Chad winning, just like Bode was all about partying. Whatever floats their boats.
Sports in general are getting more ridiculous all the time. It's all about money and players' egos and has nothing to do with whatever the game is.
