New Life for Worn Floor Mat

I've seen some postings about what to do with floormat set that are worn at the driver's heel but otherwise good shape. People noted it was a shame to trash a whole mat set for a problem with only 1 part of 1 mat. It's also an expense, which bothers the frugal side of me.
I figured out a workable fix. Cut out the worn area, glue in a patch from a good carpet, then glue on a heelpad to cover the seems. Pictures are at http://home.comcast.net/~dawgnutz/. The original mat was pretty close to having a hole through it.
The trick was to make sure to use a good oblong form to cut the bad part out of the original carpet and to cut the shape of the patch. My wife's tampon box proved to be the right size (pic #3). You want to cut the
insert generously for a tight fit, and can trim as needed to
To fix the patched part in, I just hotglued it into hole (pic #1). I used a piece of berber carpet, which is very dense and should hold up well to heel pressure.
For a heelpad, I ordered it on the web. Here's a link, not the same one I used but it looks pretty much the same. I bought a can of spray on adhesive to glue the pad to the carpet.

I had 90% of it left over. Total outlay: about $10.
While its not a replacement, you can't tell its patched unless you turn it over to see the backside.
