There's a lot of kwetching on that subject, GM's influence on Saab. Everything people don't like about Saab must be a GM conspiracy, even talk of the company being sold off lately. On the other hand GM's golden boy savior of Cadillac, Jay Spenchian is head of Saab and some say his car skills are to be trusted.

The Saabs from Trollhatan, the 9-3 and the 9-5 are the best ever, you can still take European delivery. A European vacation combined with picking up a new car is one of the most memorable things you'll ever do.

Subsequent GM influenced models after your 89 classic 900 like the new generation 900s 1994-1998, old generation 9-3s from 99-2002, and 9-5s from 1999-present, are Saabs through and through engineered, styled and built in Sweden with only some minor hidden GM components and design. The latest 9-3 is designed on a chassis subsequently used on other GM cars like Chevys and Opels, but is was developed by Saab, sorta' the tail wagging the dog.

In the USA Saab has rebranded a couple of nice cars to compete in the all wheel drive market, a big one and a little one. If you need something big to tow your boat than a 9-7X is cool, but built in Ohio and availible with a Corvette V8. Lotsa' Saab DNA though including the key on the floor. For a smaller and AWD car the 9-2X is a hoot, the Aero model being a world class turbo rocket built in Japan at the Subaru plant alongside the Impreza WRX models.

Saab dealers are everwhere nationwide and parts pricing and availibility is generally good. There are lots of non dealership places that specialize in Saabs. New Saabs come with free scheduled maintenance for 3 years and 36,000 miles, a 4 year 50,000 new car warranty and Certified Pre Owned or CPO Saabs from you Saab dealer have a 6 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.
