I had seen this show on TV where a cable car got stuck in a mountain tunnel and had an electrical problem. Then the brake lines caught on fire. Without brake pressure, it was stuck in place, and lots of people died from the nasty fire.
I had a brush fire last week when it was not windy. I had some old brake fluid and wanted to see if/how it burnt.
DOT3 is super flamable. Almost as flamable as gasoline. You really have to be careful with it near a fire and make sure the flame doesn't travel back up to the bottle while you are pouring it. It must have been used, as it had a copper color to the flame, probably from the brake lines corroding away in my car. DOT4 still burns well, but not nearly as quickly as 3. Probably because of a higher boiling point it is less volatile, and it didn't have a blue/green copper color as it burnt. Moral of the story here is that you really do have to be careful with brake fluid around fire.
