I had a similar issue recently when I recently travelled to Europe. The key is to call up the credit card co. (in my case, Bank of America) before your trip to enable it for international travel. You have to tell them where you're going and when, and then you can spend up to your credit limit in that region. Otherwise they'll have security flags kick in and cut off your spending at a much lower limit, in the thought that they are preventing fraud.
One thing you want to watch out for also Randy is the international usage fee that your credit card bank may charge. For Bank of America, it was 3% of the total outstanding amount charged in that foreign market. Naturally, I only found out about this the hard way.....
Well, have fun out there. Knock back a few Kirins and some sushi!
