see if they stick or printed a piece of machine readable bar code on the envelop. The bar code USPS use is not as big as the standard bar code but it's longer and narrow with the 9-digit zip code on it as well. Peel that bar code sticker off or use a permanent marker and mask out that bar code.

If there is a bar code in the original mail address that shows through a transparent window, use a big felt pen, and cover that bar code with your big fat black marker.

Drop that envelop back in the mail box and cross your fingers 8-).

Like you, I have repeatedly got the wrong mail back a few times until I masked out the mis-coded bar code.
