adequate oil in the US (which I seriously doubt) how does it change things?
Do we all run bigger filters, top-grade synthetics and change every 3K miles? Or is even that too long? How about 1500 miles?
At what model years does this start being an issue? How much does turbo-charging affect this? Why do Toyotas and VWs which are non-turbo engines also sludge?
We need more concrete data from a place like Blackstone Labs on oil quality, covering a wide range of cars and driving conditions if we are to make informed decsions. Seems to me the average driver with a mix of highway and stop-and-go can do just fine with Mobil 1, Amsoil, etc and changing every 5 to 6K, assuming they want to keep their car a long time.
IMHO, the bigger problem is that people leasing cars don't do much maintenance and the long change intervals make things worse.
