Think of it as running a 10K race Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 11 Apr 2006 07:40:52 In Reply to: GRE Study Guides...do I really need one?, JamieZ, Mon, 10 Apr 2006 15:13:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You could go into it cold, but it's a far better idea to train - even a couple of week's worth. And unlike running, there is very little chance of pulling/tearing a muscle! Numerous studies have shown that there is a certain amount of gain which will result just from doing some practice tests, familiarizing yourself with the test rules beforehand. Be very aware that the competition for the spot you seek in grad school is "in training".
My tips:
1. If there is a test question that you can see is going to be very time-consuming, skip it (and note the number somewhere), make sure that you leave a blank spot on your answer sheet, and go on to complete the rest of the questions - come back to it if you have time.
2. If you can eliminate at least one answer from a multiple choice question, the "expected payoff" of guessing the correct answer will exceed the expected penalty for randomly guessing an incorrect answer.
