Hey Scott, my sympathies for your discomfort over the past while.
I read recently that chewing gum helps "reset" the stomach and intestinal track after surgery, such as appendicitis, when everything stops working from the shock to the system. Apparently our saliva contains enzymes that moderate functions lower along the way.
Hope you'll consider the suggestion.
Two weeks before my twins boys were born, I ended up in the hospital, the day after I got married, with an abcess on my appendix (a pinhole perforation). I was admitted on the sixth floor, and she was on the fourth in the Ob-Gyn division in the same hospital. Let's just say it was rough - and after Heath and Gabriel arrived, I got no sleep for four months.
But they warned me, better take it out - and six months later, on the day I was going to set the consult appointment with the surgeon, the appendix ruptured. So in I go, and this time they took it out. Three months, no heavy lifting, and that was hard on my wife and the boys. Thank God I live in Toronto, or the medical bills would have buried me!
Finally, a year and a half later, got my strength back. Amazing what a kicking we can take, and how we come back. Friend of mine in medicine once said to me - for every day you are sick, it takes two in recovery before you get back to full strength. Mend quickly - the network misses you, eh!
