Teaching kids to use tools Posted by Rod [Email] (#3128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rod) on Thu, 11 May 2006 18:16:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The pastor at my wife's church has asked me to help teach some high school kids some basic tool skills. They are going on a week's trip to Appalachia where they will be doing some community service type work. I have 2 hours with the kids and don't want to bore them to death! I've never done this kind of thing (the teaching part, not the tool use part) and like most of us on this board I am mostly self-taught when it comes to tool use (my shop classes are a very distant memory). It's pretty basic stuff - measuring, hammering, basic power tool use etc.
I thought some kind of really quick and easy project would be the best way of keeping them interested, but it would have to be something that would be quick and easily done with hand tools - maybe withoccasional drill or other power tool use. I have 2 hours total so I figure that translates to 1 hour of actual hammering and nailing. Any ideas of how to entertain them and teach them some useful basic skills?
Thanks!
Rod
