Having spent many years in the car business I can tell you that most people who work for a living fritter away far too much hard earned money on cars. And I'll tell you what anyone who's spent much time in the car business just LIVES for-the day when someone trades in a car like your '99. Why? Because even though we sell new, that's the kind of car WE buy. We know that depreciation is the big expense, not repairs. We know we could rebuild the engine every year for the next five years and still not spend anywhere near the money you'd throw away in depreciation on a new Accord over the same period. If you have money to burn buy whatever you want. But if you don't, and most people really don't, than get yourself out of the mentality of making payments on something that depreciates faster than you pay it off. Pay cash for well build cars like Saabs, maintain them well and you'll never feel deprived when it comes to driving pleasure. Don't ask yourself if you can afford $400 a month for five years, ask yourself if you can afford to spend $24,000, most of which will disappear by way of depreciation. Spend your money wisely grasshopper.
