transmission flush question

This pertains to no particular saab so I thought I'd post it here.
When flushing an auto tranny, could one disconnect the sending line at the radiator cooler, stick it in a bucket to catch the old fluid, and then stick the the return line in a bucket of fresh ATF? Would there be enough vaccuum to suck the fresh ATF in at the same rate? If this worked it would be a pretty pain-free way to flush out the old fluid...
