I have had to replace several windshields over the years and I have found something very interesting about paying for it out of pocket vs having your insurance pay for it. I have found that windshield shops will charge less if you do it without insurance than they will if your insurance pays for it.
Here is what you might try. Tomorrow, call several shops and ask for an estimate with you insurance, then a few days later have a friend call these shops and ask for an estimate without insurance and see what you get. You may just want to pay for it out of pocket. You may also want to check out junk yards for a replacement windshield, I have found a couple over the years that were like new in a car from the junkyard.
