Just in case anyone is interested the subcompact hunt ended...

I bought a 1996 Subaru Legacy LSI (loaded) with 121K on the odometer. One owner, southern NJ, nine years, purchased not leased (cared for). The carfax shows meticulous oil changes (from 60K onwards) and electrical and engine systems serviced at 88K - which - I believe to be the 90K subaru dealer service. The battery and plug wires look new...It has the 2.5 boxster 155hp flat four banger, which is an interface type engine, meaning when the belts go the engine it's toast. Leather, cruise, moonroof (on a 96 legacy?!). I sold my old subie for the Aero and can't wait to hear that familiar flat four sound! I expect 25-30MPG with alignment, new tires, plugs, filters and tuneup; I don't think I'm far off...
I paid $2,500.
Go to that famous auction site and type in 4650349327 to see the auction.
I'll enjoy working on this car, minor service that is, and coupled with new rubber it should be good to go for the winter months (house is on incline and not always plowed..)
