In my opinion, 34,000 is not bad for a high performance tire. On these tires the rubber is softer so it can be stickier.
I got about 25,000 or so from a set of Pirelli P-Zero Nero all-seasons. In 225/45-17 I think Tire Rack wants about $125 a tire for those, but I didn't look right this minute.
Now I am running Nitto NeoGen in the same size. I have about 25,000 on them and they look like they'll go to 40,000. I like them pretty well.
I got them from Discount Tire. The local stores will match the internet price if you ask, and at that time the internet price was $95, while the store price was about $110. I went back to the Discount Tire site recently and couldn't find an internet price for that particular tire, though they still showed a store price.
You could put on a tire with a 50,000 or even 80,000 mile warranty, but with the reduced traction, your car won't go, turn, or stop as well. (I put this kind of tires on my wife's minivan, but not on the Viggen.) If you decide to go that route, go to tirerack.com and read the reviews for tires in the "Grand Touring" amd "Standard Touring" classes.
Best regards,
Dave
