Hi.
My 55" High Def. CRT RP TV up and died on me last week; disappointing as it was only 2.5 years old. However, it cost me almost nothing because I had bought the extended warranty from the retailer from whence the TV came. More specifically, last year the TV exhibited a bit of screen burn in and I called the warranty claim department (burn in shouldn't happen in casual use) and they said that they didn't want to fix the TV, so they gave me my money back for the purchase price of the TV and let me keep it. I was pleased with this result. Thus, I paid for the warranty (which was unusually inexpensive), tax and delivery, so basically I got the TV for free.
Fast forward to now. The TV is broken and I'm not willing to pay the repair cost to fix it, so it needs to go. Thus, I've purchased a new TV that should prove to be more reliable and I have started to learn about these third party warranty companies (e.g. Mack Warranties, available at http://www.tapeworkstexas.com) that allow you to buy an in-home warranty for a much more compelling price than the retail stores sell 'em for. Thus, the question is do you have any experience with these warranties?
Please note, I'm not asking for comments/opinions on warranty experience from Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. I'm particularly interested in hearing about these third party warranties.
Thanks,
Michael
