These are just suggestions. It is yours and your doctors' responsibilities to fully investigate your condition(s) and readiness for surgery and to accept the risks of surgery/treatment...
First and foremost, have you researched your doctor! Have you gotten a second opinion? Has your doctor discussed and researched risks and benefits with you? Is your Internist/Cardiologist fully involved in this?
2) Is this for rupture or something else? My statements in this posting are directed at quad rupture and nothing else.
3) Where will you be gong for therapy post operatively? That is as important as the surgery itself. Will your insurance pay for a full course of 3-6 months of physical therapy. Frequently they allow the surgery and then deny the therapy. That can lead to stiffness and permanent irreversible stiffness.
4) Be ready to work hard and work through the pain in physical therapy, and always make sure your surgeon is fully involved in directing your therapy. Always check with and listen to your surgeon.
5) It is possible that you will never be as good as new. The harder you work in therapy, the closer to perfect you will be.
6) Be ready for a long time of immobilization. The tendon must heal prior to physical therapy.
I wish you the best.
