swede-murphy, Chaz & others... vascular problem update: Posted by nuysSAAB [Email] (#3112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from nuysSAAB) on Tue, 10 Oct 2006 09:10:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The angiogram went well without any problem but my Vascular Surgeon discovered there's a big chunk of the femoral artery in my upper left leg which is literally not there. Approximately 8" of artery apparently died off and was absorbed following a major block. My body has attempted to repair itself with collateral circulation in the form of a web of smaller veins attaching the F. artery to the remaining section going into my lower leg. A valiant attempt on my body's part but it's obviously not good enough....my lower leg ain't gettin' enough fuel. At this point, I'm waiting to hear when I'll go in for by pass surgery - probably later this week or early next week.
The good news is, there's a good vein for harvesting in the same location so I'll only have one incision but I'm looking at 3-5 days in the hospital followed by a swollen foot for possibly quite awhile as everything adjusts to the increased blood flow with the rebuilt artery.... guess the SAAB Continuum can apply to SAAB drivers as well. My surgeon assures me that I'm a good candidate for surgery.. I'm pretty freaked but also want to just get on with it. It'll be great to have my clutch leg workin' at full speed again.
