Maximum comfortable air velocity..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 2 Nov 2006 11:58:51 In Reply to: Thanks for the "still" air #..., Crispin, Thu, 2 Nov 2006 11:30:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When designing air distribution systems for commercial spaces, the goal is to have the air velocity between 150fpm and 50fpm for the occupied zone. The air will be moving faster than 150fpm when it leaves the ceiling mounted diffuser, but should be traveling no faster than 150fpm at work spaces. This also prevents papers from being blown about by the A/C system.
Air moving faster than 150fpm will be considered "drafty" by some room occupants. Air moving less than 50fpm will be considered "stagnant".
Not a very broad range, which explains why diffusers are usually no more than 12 to 14 feet apart.
