What to do with dead TV?

I have a Pioneer PRO-99 52-inch projection TV that was built in Sept 1996 but was hardly used until a little over a year ago since it was at a vacation house. Recently it took 30 minutes to finally "catch" and turn on, but now it does not turn on at all - the power clicks on and the power light turns green but no picture and no sound - not even the input displays when you change input. I would just take it to the dump but it is a beautiful TV with a shiny black lacquer finish and I was not quite ready to do the HDTV thing yet. But I'm crazy to even think about getting it fixed, right? It's too big to take in to a repairman (hell, it's too big to take to the dump!).
