(BEWARE OF RANT!)
-----------------
I love Volvo! I have actually considered Volvos before, and they would be at the top of my list if my nightmares came true and Saab disappeared.
I think the new C70 convertible is one of the most beautiful, striking cars on the road. I also love the S60R - heavens to betsy, what a rear end! And if I became female, had kids, and did yoga, get me a V70!
And what I love so much about both Saab and Volvo is they don't have any of that obnoxious status-symbol brand cachet prestige whatever GARBAGE of the holy BMW and Mercedes-Benz shrine. Those trifling tricks can be as fast, luxurious, technologically advanced, or pretty as they want to be... I still don't want to pull up at a friend's house in one!
Now, if the entire country of Sweden disappeared, along with Saab and Volvo, that would be a tough choice. But I would probably end up with an Audi -- I am quite fond of that charming little A3. The new TT is nice as well. I know for sure I would sooner die than own an American car (gag). And the Japanese still have yet to really impress me -- it's a snoozefest over there. What's that, Lexus? Were you talking? Oh, something about best-selling luxury SUV ever? Sorry, I can't hear you, I'm too busy sleeping because your cars are such a bore. I mean, that Prius is lovely, but come on, Toyota -- as long as you're putting bluetooth, navigation, leather, and all that other stuff in a hybrid, what would it take to put a sunroof in the damn thing?!?! Come on guys.
If Saab wants to stay afloat, here's some advice: let's not do another 9-2x charade again, okay? That 9-7x, too... who let it happen? They've sold a total of what, 4? Maybe 5? You gotta spend money to make money, Saab, so put down the crackpipe and don't be penny-wise, pound-foolish. Look, for example, at how well the new 9-3 was received! That car is positively genius, and it shouldn't be a surprise -- because you guys really thought it out! So spend a lil' money and develop a REAL small car to expand your range, and if you have to do an SUV, wait a few years until you can afford to invest in more than a few badges and relocating the ignition switch.
Sorry, Saab - can't fool us!
-Sebastian
