My '78 Scirocco weighed in at 1850 lbs and had only 78 hp. But the thing was a fast little car for it's day--29 years ago. How times change. But it didn't have air conditioning, air bags, power locks, power seats, power steering, 12 stereo speakers, nav system, loads of sound insulation, etc, etc, etc.
Nowadays my fat old Saab 9K doesn't seem so big or fat, and even with only 200 hp it still puts the motor on other cars that have gained weight and power but have all their torque at the top of the rev range.
In cars and people, added weight is not a good thing. (which is one of reasons I finally started working out again! <grin>
