It gets kind of sticky and what the shop should have done is to inform you BEFORE the work that these nipples WILL probably break.
But as always, if it is not a Saab specialist, they might not know all the in and outs about the cars they are working on and they also might not have the repair kits on hand to install a new nipple just like that.
Even if being really careful and lube the fuel lines before trying to extract them out of the pump, they might break due to old age.
If this happens to me (and it does), the extra cost comes up to about $50.00 to cut the pipe and insert a new nipple.
They might have gone the route to replace the whole return line and that's why it was more.
