Companies could produce your product then make the same product at night (same design and logo) and sell it for less. Other companies could get your design and sell the design to other companies, which is what happened to Calloway Golf.
Although less common than before, the local government head may demand a job (with no duties) for his cousin or son in order to get approved.
This type of corruption happens in Red China, aka China. Nationalist China (Taiwan) doesn't have as much a problem, though their wages are higher.
If you have some sort of complex product, consider higher wage places like Singapore.
If you have a simple product, consider Mexico, as well as Red China. Thailand is cheap enough for Ford to make Ford Rangers for the Third World. Malaysia is cheap enough for Dell to make computers (as a compromise between Red China, which makes the electrical cords for Dell versus Singapore, which is more modern and not as cheap as Malaysia but has less or the same level of corruption as Switzerland and the US).
South Africa is English speaking and cheap enough for Opel, BMW, and others. How about Poland? If you are in Chicago, you might find some Polish people to translate for you and still have a high degree of loyalty to your company.
